Status update
February 20th, 2015

Apart from 0.5.1 update, this week I've been working on some more improvements and tackled losing. I've come up with the idea of "City reputation" which drops if your people die or emigrate, and if it drops to a zero - you lose. Not sure if it is exactly what we need, but we'll see. Problem with losing is that "Game over" screen should be shown at the right moment - before you understand that it is easier to just start over. It is tricky to find this moment in the game like Hearthlands.

Also I added a bunch of notifications to make sure you don't miss something important, like the shortage of food or available research. I should play the game for a few hours now to make sure notifications appear at the right moments and aren't annoying.

And here's the skeleton boss! Can't wait to be besieged by an army of skeletons led by this guy.

What's new in 0.5.1
February 17th, 2015

Hearthlands 0.5.1 should be available either now or very soon! This is an intermediate update. We'll probably make a couple more of those before version 0.6 (which features new characters and monsters I've been showing in the devblog) is finished. This version contains several fixes and improvements, including:

- Morale and revolts. Troops that don't receive upkeep gradually lose their morale. The lower morale is the less damage unit does in combat (down to 50%). If squad morale drops to a zero, the squad may revolt.

- You can dismiss squads now (Press [U] to open Squads window), but trying to dismiss a squad with low morale may cause it to revolt.

- Fixed rare bug with peddlers freezing the game if they can't figure out where to go next.

- Damage indicators and health bars. Are enabled by default and can be turned on/off by pressing [4].

- Stocks panel now shows only the resources you have in stock at the moment and/or resources you've been producing/consuming within the last 12 months.

- Crime and immigration have been slightly rebalanced.

- Savegames from 0.5.0 should be compatible with 0.5.1.

I have lost most of the week due to family issues, but still managed to get some things done, including the following:

Squads can revolt if their morale drops to zero (because of underpayment). Also, squads can be manually dismissed. Trying to dismiss a squad with low morale may cause it to throw a revolt.

Damage numbers and health bars (can be turned on/off).

Status update
February 6th, 2015

This week we continued to work on planned improvements as well as making new characters and stuff for the next update.

Warriors now have morale, which is pretty much explained on the screenshot.

A wizard to live in a wizard tower.

Little annoying creatures, which have a WIP name of buggers 'boggers'.

Hearthlands

Treasure chests! There are several types of items, which you will be able to pick up: a grail (increases XP), a treasure chest (gives coins), a book (gives lore), a legendary sword (gives fame) and a magic crystal (gives magic points).

Status update
January 30th, 2015

This week we focused on adding new stuff to the game as well as further improvements. The plan also was to release a Mac version on Steam this week, but apparently it is not as easy as one may imagine. Mac version of Hearthlands is available on Humble Store though, and it is only a Steam integration part that is problematic. I also had to spend the last two days almost entirely on paperwork and it drives me a little bit mad.

Goblins are the third type of NPCs, along with skeletons and elementals, which (as the idea goes) can be hostile, neutral or friendly. Their thieves, however, will keep stealing from you even if you maintain good relationship with them.

They can live in huts on the local map, or in a camp on the world map.

There are three types of goblins at the moment: goblin swordsmen, goblin crossbowmen and goblin wolfriders.

Another important NPC would be a wizard. This is his awesome tower:
